A library card is free and may be obtained by presenting photo ID, proof of current address, and either a Nevada DMV number (driver's license, driver's permit or non-driver identification) or Social Security Number. This library card is good at any public library in Clark County.
Replacement fee for a lost card is $1.00.
- Loud or continuous talking or other disturbing noises are not allowed.
- Running and any form of rough housing are not allowed.
- Vulgar or abusive language is not allowed.
- Food and drink are not allowed in the library.
- Shirts and shoes are required in the library.
- Skateboards, roller blades, etc. are not allowed in the library, they must be left at the main desk.
- Children younger than age 10 are not to be left unattended in the Library and must be accompanied by a parent, an older sibling or other responsible care-giver with delegated parental responsibility: public school or pre-school teacher, sitter or other official care-giver. If a child is left at the Library past closing, library staff will attempt to contact parents for 15 minutes past closing. After 15 minutes, staff will contact the Boulder City Police Dept. Under no circumstances will staff provide the child a ride home in personal cars or otherwise assume personal charge of the child.
- No more than 4 people are allowed at any table.
- Boulder City Library staff members may call upon the Boulder City Police, if necessary, to enforce these rules.
Adult Collection
The Boulder City Library maintains collections of both Fiction and Non-fiction books for adults. Items added to the Fiction collection include a variety of books of general interest, with special emphasis on Mysteries and Westerns. Items added to the Non-fiction collection include books on all topics, with an emphasis on cooking, sailing, golf, and travel.
Reference
The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of non-circulating reference books designed to assist in answering most common questions. Due to the limitations of our size, we do not always have the answer to every question, but we will make every effort possible.
Young People's Library
The Boulder City Library maintains a large collection of books appropriate for several different reading/age levels. This includes Browser/Board books for babies, Picture books for all ages, Easy Reader/Transitional books for K-1 and 2-3 grade readers, Juvenile fiction and Young Adult fiction, as well as a non-fiction books. Each of these collections is housed in a different area of the library, but all are to your left as you enter the building from the lobby. If you have any trouble finding the appropriate collection, please ask us.
Nevada Room
The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of local history and local interest books, with an emphasis on the building of Hoover Dam and related topics.
All Boulder City Library items check out for 3 weeks, have an overdue fine of $.10 a day , with a maximum of $1.00. CDs, VHS tapes and DVDs have a limit of 5 each. Any item that is 60 days overdue is considered lost and you will be billed for the replacement cost. When overdue charges total $2.50 or more, borrowing privileges are revoked until fines are paid.
Audio Books
The Boulder City Library maintains collections of both Fiction and Non-fiction audio books for adults.
CDs
The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of music cds. Our cds are divided by the following catagories: Big Band, Blues, Bluegrass, Christams, Classical, Country Western, Dance, Easy Listening, Folk, Instructional, Insturmental, International, Jazz, Miscellaneous, New Age, Opera, Pop, R&B, Show, Soundtrack, and Spiritual. There is a limit of 5 CDs per visit.
Large Print
The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of Large Print books, both fiction and non-fiction. Items added to this collection include books from various Best Seller lists, classics, Mysteries, and Westerns.
Periodicals
The Boulder City Library houses a large collection of periodicals, both magazines and newspapers. Periodicals list. The current/most recent issue of each title does not check out, but older issues can be checked out.
Spanish Books
The Boulder City Library has a small, but growing, collection of books in Spanish. At the current time, most of our fiction books in Spanish are Large Print and non-fiction books are regular print. We also have a small collection of Reference books in Spanish.
Video tapes and DVDs
The Boulder City Library maintains a small collection of general interest videos for adults and children. The front and back covers of the videos are displayed for your selection. There is a limit of 5 per visit.
Book Swap
The Boulder City Library maintains a paperback book swap. This consists of 2 racks of paperbacks which may be borrowed without a library card. We ask that you limit yourself to taking 10 or less per week, that you tell us how many you are taking, and that you bring them back when you are finished. If you have books you would like to donate to our book swap, we are currently accepting new-ish best sellers in good condition.
Community Rooms
The Boulder City Library offers two different sized meeting rooms for use, there is a folding divider between the two that can be opened to accommodate larger groups. Meeting room reservations must be made with either Anne or Carolyn. Community Room Policy.
Computers
The Boulder City Library maintains a small collection of computers. To use any of the computers in the Boulder City Library, you must have a valid local library card in good standing, and a computer sticker. The computer sticker may be obtained by reading and signing our Computer Responsibility Statement.
We have 8 PCs with Internet access (6 unfiltered, 2 filtered), word processing and spreadsheet applications. Anyone under the age of 18, who wishes to access the internet must use one of the filtered computers, unless we have written permission from a parent. If you are a parent and wish to give your child unfiltered internet access, please come in with your ID and your child to fill out the form.
Copier
The Boulder City Library maintains a copier for public use. This copier is located to your left as you enter the main part of the building from the lobby. Copies are currently 10 cents a page.
Interlibrary Loan
The Boulder City Library offers Interlibrary Loan Service for materials that can not be obtained from local co-operating libraries. This service is available to Boulder City Library patrons with valid library cards. The maximum number of requests is three per person at one time. Interlibrary Loan request forms are available at and should be returned to the Circulation desk. The minimum length of time to obtain books is 7 working days, some hard to find books will take longer (sometimes a month or more). Most Interlibrary Loan books can be checked out for about three weeks and may not be renewed.
Storytime
The Children's Librarian or an assistant conducts a storytime every Wednesday at 10:00 a.m. This is a good opportunity to introduce children to the joy of reading. Please come for stories, songs, finger plays, and fun.
