Collections

Audio Books

The Boulder City Library maintains collections of both Fiction and Non-fiction audio books for adults.  Also available are downloadable audio books which can be played on a computer or MP3 player.  Access to these items is available through Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s ebook site.  You will need your library card and zip code to check items out and we suggest first time users read the help section.  There is software and a security update that needs to be installed on your computer. For Boulder City Library cardholders, we also offer OneClickDigital eAudiobooks.

Large Print

The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of Large Print books, both fiction and non-fiction.  Items added to this collection include books from various best seller lists, classics, mysteries, and westerns.

Music

The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of music CDs. There is a limit of 7 CDs per visit.  Also available is downladable music.  Access to this is through Freegal.  You will need your library card and zip code to check items out and we suggest first time users read the help section.  There is software and a security update that needs to be installed on your computer.

Periodicals

The Boulder City Library houses a large collection of periodicals, both magazines and newspapers.  The current/most recent issues of each title does NOT check out, but older issues can be checked out.  There is a limit of 7 items at a time and check out for 1 week.

Spanish Books

The Boulder City Library has a small collection of books in Spanish.  At the current time, most of our fiction books in Spanish are Large Print and non-fiction books are regular print.  We also have a small collection of Reference books in Spanish.

DVDs

The Boulder City Library maintains a small collection of general interest videos for adults and children.  DVDs are searchable through the online catalog. There is a limit of 7 per visit.

Departments

Adult Collection

The Boulder City Library maintains collections of both Fiction and Non-fiction books for adults. Items added to the Fiction collection include a variety of books of general interest, with special emphasis on Mysteries and Westerns. Items added to the Non-fiction collection include books on all topics, with an emphasis on how to, cooking, sailing, golf, and travel. Items can also be borrowed from the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, and North Las Vegas Library District. Requests for these materials can be made online through the  Library Catalog, or from staff at the Reference Desk. Also available are downloadable eBooks which can be read on a computer or some hand held devices. Access to these items is through  Las Vegas-Clark County Library District’s eBook site.  You will need your library card number to check items out, and we suggest you read the help section for first time users. There is software and a security update that need to be installed on your
computer.

Reference

The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of non-circulating reference books designed to assist in answering most common questions. Due to the limitations of our size, we do not always have the answer to every question, but we will make every effort possible.

Youth Department

The Boulder City Library maintains a large collection of books appropriate for several different reading/age levels. This includes Browser/Board books for babies, Picture books for all ages, Easy Reader/Transitional books for K-1 and 2-3 grade readers, Juvenile fiction and Young Adult fiction, as well as a non-fiction books. Each of these collections is housed in a different area of the library, but all are to your left as you enter the building from the lobby. If you have any trouble finding the appropriate collection, please ask us. Youth items can also be borrowed from the Las Vegas-Clark County Library District, and North Las Vegas Library District. The Boulder City Library maintains a collection of local history and local interest books, with an emphasis on the building of Hoover Dam and related topics.

Other Services

Book Swap

The Boulder City Library maintains a paperback book swap. This consists of 3 racks of paperbacks which may be borrowed without a library card. We ask that you limit yourself to taking 10 or less per week, that you tell us how many you are taking, and that you bring them back when you are finished. If you have books you would like to donate to our book swap, we are currently accepting new-ish best sellers in good condition.

DVD Swap

The Boulder City Library maintains a DVD swap. This consists of a rack of DVDs which may be borrowed without a library card. The limit is 3 DVDs and we ask you tell the circulation desk how many you are taking, and bring them back when finished. If you have DVDs you would like to donate, we are currently accepting ones that are in good condition.

Community Rooms

The Boulder City Library offers two different sized meeting rooms for use, there is a folding divider between the two that can be opened to accommodate larger groups. Computers

The Boulder City Library maintains computers for public use. To use any of the computers in the Boulder City Library, you must have a valid local library card in good standing, and a computer sticker. The computer sticker may be obtained by reading and signing our Computer  Responsibility Statement at the Reference Desk. We have 16 PCs with Internet access (10 unfiltered, 5 filtered, 1 quick use), word processing and spreadsheet applications. Anyone under the age of 18, who wishes to access the internet must use one of the filtered computers, unless we have written permission from a parent. If you are a parent and wish to give your child unfiltered internet access, please come in with your ID and your child to fill out the form. Computers shut down 15 minutes before the library closes.

Wireless

The Boulder City Library offers wireless access. To use the wireless you must have signed the Wireless Computer Access Agreement. See the reference desk to sign the form or get the passcode if the form has been signed. The passcode is changed twice a week. The wireless shuts down 10 minutes before the library closes.

Copier

The Boulder City Library maintains a copier for public use. This copier is located to your left as you enter the main part of the building from the lobby. Copies are currently 10 cents a page.

Interlibrary Loans

The Boulder City Library offers Interlibrary Loan Service for materials that can not be obtained from local co-operating libraries. This service is available to Boulder City residents with valid library cards.  The maximum number of requests is three per person at one time.  Interlibrary Loan request forms are available at and should be returned to the Circulation desk or the Reference Desk. The minimum length of time to obtain books is 7 working days, some hard to find books will take longer (sometimes a month or more). Most Interlibrary Loan books can be checked out for about three weeks and may not be renewed.

Youth Programs

The Youth Department has regularly scheduled programs and activities for all ages. Their list of scheduled programs and activities is available here.

Amphitheatre

The Amphitheatre in front of the Boulder City Library is available to rent for events. For more information check our Amphitheatre page.

Computer Lab

The Computer Lab shuts down 15 minutes before the library closes.

Wireless Internet

We have wireless internet and wireless printing. Please stop at the Reference Desk for more information. Wireless internet shuts down 10 minutes before closing.
