Facts about Memorial Day:

  • Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day, established just after the end of the Civil War as a day for the nation to honor fallen soldiers.
  • The first Decoration Day was held on May 30, 1868 because there was no battle fought on that day.
  • The Uniform Monday Holiday Act in 1968 changed the date to the last Monday in May.
  • Memorial Day was declared a federal holiday in 1971.
  • Don’t forget about the moment of silence at 3 pm. It’s the law since 2000.

REMINDER: Our summer hours start Memorial Day weekend and end Labor Day weekend. We are closed Sundays in the summer.
