Library Assistant I – Circulation Substitute

Part-Time:  A substitute will regularly work 1 3-hour shift each week.  Additional hours will be scheduled as needed.  Schedule may include daytime, evening or weekend hours.

$9.00/hour   Benefits are not included.

Description:
The Library Circulation Assistant I reports directly to the  Circulation Librarians and to the Library Director.  Typical duties include: Checking books in & out, issuing new library cards, checking the shelves, shelving materials, handling fines, readers advisory and other duties as required.

Required:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills including familiarity with Microsoft Office.
  • Basic telephone skills.
  • Basic mathematic skills including the ability to make change.
  • Strong people skills.
  • Ability to read and follow written directions in English.
  • Ability to alphabetize and numerate in English.
  • Ability to stand/walk for shifts that may last up to 2-hours.
  • Abilities to bend down and stretch up to reach shelves.
  • Ability to lift and carry books and other library materials.
  • Ability to push rolling carts weighing up to 75-100 lbs.
  • Ability to keep a calm and friendly demeanor, even when under stress.
  • Ability to develop and maintain cordial and productive working relationships.
  • Positive Customer Service Attitude.
